Great article Lou. I especially like this quote from the article.

Quote:
As they say about the stock market: Past results are no indication of future performance.

This year's uneventful season provides no assurance that next year will be as calm:

Shocked

Thank God there were no hurricanes in Florida. I think it's so ironic that even though that's the case, like many others, our homeowner's policy was canceled and we had to get a new homeowner's policy (Citizens) that, according to the article you referred us to, raised our insurance 56 percent. Surprised But no hurricanes.

Post Posted: Wed Jul 05, 2006 8:48 pm Post subject: UPPER LOW TO AID POSSIBLE TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT FRI-SAT

.I expressed my idea of a relatively quiet season. The logic is that a hurricane's main purpose (nature wise) is to take heat out of the tropics and redistribute it into the higher latitudes. In turn cold fronts would move equatoraly to transport cooler air southward.....this is how nature balances the atmosphere so we don't go to either extreme globally. My point was......we are coming off one of the warmest winters in recent record up north and the Atlantic Ocean for the most part is abnormally warm. Hurricanes distributing any more heat northward this year would just cause a further imbalance up North and cause more historical flooding as just experienced last week............With that logic in mind, it would make sense for a slow Western Atlantic hurricane season with the development more likely in the Western Caribean headed westward towards Mexico. This is because the Pacific is getting cooler as the Atlantic warms and would be a good magnet for heat distribution. Now I am not tropically inclined enough to bet against Dr Gray or the experts over at NHC who feel we will get throttled this summer, but I would not be surprised if this landfall season in the US is a bust.................Sorry so long...... Rolling Eyes
**************************************************************
I thought I sent out the warning flags pretty early (late June & early July) that there was a good chance IMHO of a quiet season........The few storms which did occur.....Ernesto & his unnamed destructive friends... went right into my wheelhouse area of concentration (Carolinas-New England). I would not agree that I busted this season Exclamation Let's not talk about 2005 though... Embarassed

We all expected a pretty active season this year and I'm sure most are glad that it was basically dead. Hardly a scratch on the US continent. Ernesto didn't really become a storm until it reached up your way Jeff and that was the only real threat we had. Very Happy I'm just hoping that next years season isn't like this years typhoon season. They have had some sick storms over there. That's something we definitely can do without. Anyhow, I wouldn't worry about the 2005 season. Who would've expected it to be that busy? The NHC didn't have enough names to keep up. Laughing
