24 hrs later, Storm over western Africa showing signs of strenthening as it approaches the Atlantic ocean. Water vaper loop shows disappearing low to the north. Seems it will emerge off the coast at least on the same longitude as the Cape Verde Islands. ccstorms , what your latest thinking on this system

It continues to facinate me how many people are focussing on disturbances over the African Continent.........1000's of miles away Even if it does develop, it's got to come across the entire Atlantic (could be a 10 day journey if it even makes it) Meanwhile, there is a wave near 60 firing along the Islands that will be coming into the Gulf on Fri/Sat with a favorable atmospheric setup for development in your own backyard. What is this CV facination all about ? _________________ No...I am not a tropical forecaster....But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once

Exactly. Conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for "home-grown" development. Also, the lack of any storminess in the Gulf has allowed surface water temperatures to soar.

Hi Bob, What I said yesterday still applies. South of CVI and west of 40 before you can look for any development. Ask all the questions you want. I don't mind if your watching Africa or Alabama. _________________ LOU

Speaking for myself, I love any kind of tropical systems, their cyclogensis fascinates me no matter where they form. Hopefully they all do form off coast of africa and disappear into the north sea.

Not obsessed with every swirl coming off of Africa and realize the very slim chances of development and / or ever affecting our little corner of the world. But it's been so quiet and we can all gain knowledge and insight from the very informed members on this board!
All your comments are appreciated.
ps. Still keep a watch on the eastern atlantic

I am like big brother..............always watching .........That being said, until I see conditions favorable for a system from Africa to have a shot to make it across the pond, I am much more interested in disturbances along decaying boundaries etc. ........which are close in and over waters which were virtually undisturbed last year. There is tremendous latent heat energy available in the Gulf this year and unlike past seasons which featured storms weakening as they approached landfall, any hurricane this year (barring UA shear) may indeed intensifiying up until it hits shallow shelf waters. Bottom line...........If it intrigues me, you'll know about it......like last weeks storm that formed between Bermuda and Cape Cod. I was worrying about a disturbance in Iowa riding a stalled boundary to a position off Delmarva where the waters are pretty warm this year. The tropical system did form a bit further East in that environment, just not from the disturbance I was eyeing. Sometimes the meteorology is right and the weather doesn't cooperate and vice versa _________________ No...I am not a tropical forecaster....But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once
