Thought I'd share the following: My daughter was married in Ochos Rios which is located on the north central coast of Jamaica in June. She e-mailed her wedding consultant asking how they made it through DEAN. Here is her answer:
Good Day Erika.
Thank you for your fervent prayers and concern.Thankfully we were spared the worst that Dean could have brought us. The nw of the island was spared major damage and only lost a few sheets of roofing and broken trees.
The hotel held well, we had a full house here as other sandals resorts in low lying areas relocated their guests here, for those who could not get a flight out or did not want to leave. We had staff here overnight so they had a lot of company.
My home fortunately wasn't damaged by the strong winds. Today as I came to work everyone I saw in my neighborhood were going about their business as usual.
On a less positive note there was a lot more damage on the south coast. That is where a lot of my family is from. As a matter of fact my mother in law lost her roof, so we drove over yesterday to see her, assess the damage and help with the cleanup.
With the exception of occasional broken trees and limbs in the road,it,
was passable. We drove from St. Ann to Mandeville and back with out any delays. The parishes that suffered the most were St. Thomas, Portland, Manchester, Clarendon & St. Elizabeth from the reports I have heard. The power and water are still off, hopefully they will be back by the end of the week.
As we always say here, we are a God fearing country so sometimes He sends us a sign to shape up. Thank him that no lives were lost (to my knowledge ) and we can get back on our feet again.
Thank you Erika once again for your concern and interest.
