Ok everybody. We just updated our Buoy Data script under the Tropics section. A special thanks goes out to Ken at http://saratoga-weather.org for providing the script and the guidance to have all the data set up.
Simply click on any sector of the provided map or choose a location name at the bottom of the page. The buoy data is now setup similar to a mesomap with rotating data values which are fetched from the NDBC (National Data Buoy Center) and used on our site. If you notice on each map there is a control function for these values to either run, pause or step through each data increment. This makes it nice to allow the user to analyze the data easier. Also, if you put your mouse directly over a buoy, a hotspot popup will appear giving you detailed information.
Hopefully this helps out some folks who would like to see what exactly is going on in the tropics and locally for our area. Enjoy and feedback is always welcome. I've posted a direct link to our Buoy center.
Edit: Keep in mind that if data for a particular buoy isn't available from the NDBC an output will say 'No recent reports'.

Thanks guys. I just found out some information as to why some of the buoys may not be reporting. It appears that a service schedule has been released when the NDBC plans on fixing the down buoys. The page below is updated weekly so you can keep checking on the status and the actual problem.
Here is the actual schedule on the page that I snipped from this month.
Station Maintenance Schedule, updated August 21, 2007
NOTE: Outage correction visits may happen earlier, when they can be combined with
other regularly scheduled maintenance. Unsuitable weather does cause schedule changes.

Please note that this page concerns service of stations operated by NDBC. Not all stations on the web site are operated by NDBC. If an outage is not listed here, please check the station page. A link for the owner/operator will take you to the appropriate web site. Questions about non-NDBC station outages should be addressed to those operators. _________________ Chris

Hi Chris. I would like to thank you and Ken for the new NDBC web site you made. I also like the way all the info on every buoy can be viewed at once on the map. _________________ Todd

Exactly guys! I found it to be a pain to click on each buoy during a tropical cyclone to try and find out detailed info. Not only that, but the NDBC uses knots instead of mph which could cause another headache. This great script that Ken created automatically converts knots to mph on the map which is REALLY nice. Now everything is right in front of your face with English units! _________________ Chris
