Get out the Snorkel, Fins, Wet Suit, and your Rubber Ducky. Lot's of rain coming in the next few days. A trough of low pressure is moving south along the Florida west coast and we could see a convergence zone set up tonight and tomorrow morning that will create a "Training" effect. Some of the highest rainfall totals I have experienced during my 32 years here is from this type of scenario. At some point I would expect the NWS to issue a flood watch for parts of southwest Florida. Those of you who have not experienced a true "Training" episode.....well.......enjoy!!!! Very Happy

SHORT TERM FORECAST
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAMPA BAY AREA - RUSKIN FL
252 PM EDT SAT JUL 12 2008

FLZ039-042-043-048-049-051-052-055>057-060>062-065-122030-
DE SOTO-HARDEE-HIGHLANDS-POLK-SUMTER-MANATEE-CHARLOTTE-LEE-HERNANDO-SARASOTA-HILLSBOROUGH-CITRUS-LEVY-PASCO-
252 PM EDT SAT JUL 12 2008

NOW:

THROUGH 4:30 PM EDT...WIDESPREAD RAIN SHOWERS WITH SOME EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUE TO BLANKET MOST OF THE REGION. THE STRONGEST LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS IS MOVING SOUTH AT 10 MPH IN SOUTHEAST POLK COUNTY AND CENTRAL HIGHLANDS COUNTY...EAST OF FROSTPROOF AND SEBRING. ANOTHER STRONG LINE IS LOCATED OVER I 75 NEAR PORT CHARLOTTE AND NORTH FORT MYERS...IN CHARLOTTE AND LEE COUNTIES. HEAVY RAIN AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING WILL ACCOMPANY THE STRONGER THUNDERSTORMS.

EXPECT THESE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO PERSIST INTO THE EVENING. BECAUSE OF THE EXTENSIVE COVERAGE...SOME AREAS MIGHT RECEIVE RAINFALL TOTALS OF OVER 2 INCHES...WHICH MAY CAUSE FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS.

.22 inches seems to be accurate with what I see on the ground and what I recorded on the graph. I don't know what to tell you.

Your gauge missed the 3:50 to 4:20 or so rain. You caught the second event a little later on.

I doubt it. It probably just didn't rain here and if it did, it was probably really light.

Generally more overrunning is required for genuine "training" of rainfall. The areas most likely to receive repetitive storms will be further inland. This trough is likely to produce more generalized rainfall along the coast as most areas should receive a solid inch or two. We could see a very nice lightning display later tonight as well.

We got soaked! Thankfully we were all done with MangoMania! by that time!
And I was about to pull out every last hair on my head as in between thunder strokes there were kids (not mine!) in the pool and standing next to the pool! Eeek!

Anyway, got some ok photos of the sky/clouds...Even through a window... This is looking out from near Savona and Aqualinda looking out toward the river...
