Now THESE are synoptic features that can produce some minor "training" of rainfall bands, especially as the low begins the process of pulling to the north.
It is interesting how precipitation has a way of evening out. We couldn't buy a drop down here throughout most of the spring while areas just to our north were well above normal. I have one station off Toledo Blade Road near 41 that topped the 30-inch total (since Jan 1) back in June and has received only 2 inches since then whereas one of my gauges at Pirate Harbor (on Burnt Store Rd.) was bone dry for months and has seen over 17 inches over the past month. In any case, I think it's very safe to say this drought is finally over for most areas.

Wow.....this looks like a great rain producer down there.....over 10 inches in spots. This puppy is having a hard time figuring out where to develop a center. The FL Peninsula is definitely playing havoc with it. While yesterday I ASSumed the center would pop off the west coast, today I wouldn't be surprised if it popped off either coast .....or even developed over land (yes a weak tropical system can get going over a flat, lower frictional surface like Florida if there is good enough inflow/ feeder bands into the center of circulation. Anyway, this is one of those systems that give the forecasters fits but at the same time is a drought denting godsend as there will be no tidal surge or wind damage to contend with even if there is development in the next 48 hrs. This is destined to help some of the poor drought stricken folks up in GA after it mosey's on out of FL. _________________ No...I am not a tropical forecaster....But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once

In actuality, this little system ended up not being the prodigious rain producter that sometimes occur from these types of systems. The center of the very weak low remained over land all day and that sapped all potential of growth. Many areas in Lee and Collier Counties saw 3 to 5 inches of rainfall over the past few days, but the overall coverage across the rest of SW Florida was barely above climatological norms for this time of year. Of the twelve gauges I have operating in the area, only two recorded amounts of greater than two inches from this system. Amazingly, one of the stations (at Sable Trace in North Port) somehow escaped most of the showers and reported .17 inches over the past 48 hours.

I don't think it is either. Tomorrow might bring in another wave of showers which would be nice. I also think we are finally out of the drought period which will keep code enforcement off our butts. _________________ Chris

Another interesting note is our station only recorded 23 inches of rain last year and we are about to surpass that. The last few days have really helped get our rain totals up. _________________ Chris
