Briefly, the disturbance that has NOT been named yet NW of Puerto Rico IMO will become Rita quickly this weekend and threaten South Florida and/or the Keys with a Cat 1-borderline Cat 2 (if in Keys) hurricane early next week. More tomorrow as storm develops and I get a better handle on it... Exclamation

Gonna have to agree with you on that Jeff. NHC already named several warnings for Florida. That wave is looking more impressive as each day passes. Take a look at the warnings...

Huh, I didn't even see that! Thought I was on to something before they pulled trigger. Anyway, I feel it will be a hurricane (not a TD or TS) when it crosses S.FL or Keys. Conditions are favorable

Maybe after the disaster in New Orleans they thought it might be a good idea to be a little proactive. who knows. It's definitely something to keep an eye on since the conditions are really favorable like you said. I hope it doesnt do the same thing and end up in the gulf like Katrina. That would really hurt.

This my friend will become a big Texas problem. A very strong high will guide it west across the entire Gulf and very warm (88 degree) water in the Western Gulf will ramp this up to a Cat 3 or dare I say Cat 4 if it takes it's time across.

I could see that happening. I mean Katrina was only a 100 miles off the coast when it ramped up and hit the east coast as a Cat 1. So with that scenario, I dont doubt this wave could develop into a Cat 1 or possible Cat 2. Then it could easily do what Katrina did, move swiftly across the state and build itself back up into another big storm. Whats funny is if storm activity continues the NHC is going to run out of names.

Rita
Stan
Tammy
Vince
Wilma

Thats all thats left, lol.

I like the NHC track. Iwould probably nudge it a bit North...skimming South Fla.
