Is it me or do the mosquitos seem to be really bad this year? I cannot remember it being this bad to the point that it is almost unbearable to go outside at night. I have only witnessed the trucks a few times spraying the neighborhood and the planes/choppers seem to be grounded (Haven't seen them at all). Are they cutting their budget too? Where are they and what gives? Anybody know? Confused

I have seen the choppers just about every day. I can't say that I have seen a fogger truck, or the DC3's though. Last Thursday I was in your neck of the woods (or should I say mangroves) and I saw a chopper working the area south of the Chiquita boat lock. I've also seen them up by Eco Park in mid-cape.

I agree it's been tough this season. I wonder if the early start to the rains caught them flat footed?

I bet the early rains had something to do with it Marty. One thing I do remember that I have not seen this year is the spraying in May to be proactive. Normally the DC3's would treetop the houses but I think the choppers do this now. I'm not so sure they did that this year. Sounds to me like you are getting a little more coverage than us, which is good, but I think they need to hit us a few times a week with the amount of mangroves along the hatchee. There has to be a ton of standing water in the marsh for mosquitos to breed.

Here is the website to the Lee County Mosquito Control. I may call them tomorrow to find out what type of schedule they have for the Cape.

Called yesterday and submitted a report on the mosquito activity in our area. Lo and behold they are actually spraying tonight (Helicopter)! Smile Now I don't know if anybody can answer this question but is it suitable to spray in 20mph winds?

Awesome and thanks for the update on this Todd. Atleast we know the skeeters' are pretty thick in the southwest and they plan on spraying. I'm not sure if they sprayed in our neck of the woods last night but hope they will soon. Still buggy over here. Oh yeah, and those D3C's are awesome when they fly at tree/roof top. It will scare the living hell out of you but they do bring the excitement.

These insects are a relative to the fly family, but unlike its relative common American fly, are equipped with long piercing proboscis, which is what draws blood from its prey. Both male and female mosquitoes process this characteristic, but it is the female mosquito that proboscis that has the penetrating power to penetrate human skin. That's why finding a pest control company that knows how to work with the land and the weather to find a lasting solution is the best choice you can make for your home and family.

"are equipped with long piercing proboscis, which is what draws blood from its prey."

Must be related to the species Congress Parasitic.
