Here's today close-up Big Picture. From left to right....Ex Gaston by the Antilles, still huffing and puffing. CV-7 sprawled across the African coast. East of CV-7 is what will be CV-8 when it goes feet wet about Sept 10 or 11.
Ok, here's a strange one. Over the last few days the models starting with the ECMWF began showing a tropical cyclone in the western caribbean in about 6 days. It just pops up out of the blue with no apparent point of origin. First thing I thought was Gaston but the timing was wrong. Gaston was already south of Puerto Rico. Next I looked for a possible crossover from the Pacific, crossing over Panama and into the sw carib. Nope, nothing there. So I began checking for a possible tropical wave that I might have missed but all the waves are accounted for and none have made it across the Atlantic without developing, or in the case of CV-6, getting absorbed by a monsoonal trough. Now the NAM and NOGAPS are also showing a TC forming with the point of origin near the southern Antilles but still no wave. A few hours ago I noticed a convective system over northeastern south america that is moving EAST! Yep East. It's currently moving offshore into the Atlantic to the east of the Antilles and into the ITCZ. Now I notice that convection is increasing over the area and it's where the models are now pointing to as the point of origin. Below is a satellite image of the area. If this does develop it could mean the models have reached a new level of intelligence. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a scary thing. It sort of reminds me of a sci-fi movie from many years ago called The Forbin Project. But that's another story.
NHC: "DISORGANIZED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE VICINITY OF THE
WINDWARD ISLANDS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH A WEAK AREA OF LOW PRESSURE.
DEVELOPMENT...IF ANY...IS EXPECTED TO BE SLOW TO OCCUR AS THE
SYSTEM MOVES WEST-NORTHWESTWARD AT 5 TO 10 MPH. THERE IS A LOW
CHANCE...10 PERCENT...OF THIS SYSTEM BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE
DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS." _________________ LOU
