I always check tides before we go out , some times there dead on but more often then not they don't match up with chart. Is there a trick to the charts, or are they just a suggestion.

Hi Fish, thanks for posting. Yes, they are predictions and sometimes they can be wrong. I've fished in Southwest Florida all my life and wonder the same thing myself. During the winter, I have noticed the biggest margin of error due to the north winds from the cold fronts that roll through. North winds actually create a tide that is lower than expected and it could be hours before it starts to come back in. Summer predictions are a little more accurate but they are also affected by wind, rain, hurricanes, etc.. Hope this helps. _________________ Chris
