Hello there ,

I write into this forum because on television i saw that in your area thunderstorms can become extremely strong. Two years ago i have recorded a thunderstorm in Germany with a very stange sound.Never heard before, never heard again after. Please listen here : http://www.yakohl.com/pages/div/wx/gewi...edited.mp3 .

Anyone knows what this might be about ?

RolfK

Sounds pretty typical of lightening strikes that hit very close to you. The close strikes will make crackling and sizzling sounds followed by the loud crashing sound of the thunder.

Surprised there were not more responses to Rolfk's audio. Does sound like close strikes. You can hear people oh and ah ing just before the sounds of the strike. This is an easy one for new impute from those of you who never responded before. Took me 2 yrs to respond!
Give your opinions- it doesn't hurt a bit Very Happy

I didn't think it sounded that atypical of florida lightning at times.

Thanks for answering.Additionally i must tell that the original audio is about 20 or 30 minutes long.I cut the quiet parts out because the file was to large for uploading.
Another thing is that we have thunderstorms quite often and my phoneline got hit twice in the past 3 years, but i never heard that funny sound when a lightning came so close.

Your recording sounde pretty typical of a storm to me and I have been in a lot of thunderstorms across the US, Canada and Mexico.
There was one part that almost sounded like a jet was flying by.
Any clue as if this was possible? Cool
