HURRICANE KATRINA — MOST DESTRUCTIVE HURRICANE EVER TO STRIKE THE U.S.

On August 28, 2005, Hurricane Katrina was in the Gulf of Mexico where it powered up to a Category 5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale packing winds estimated at 175 mph.

At 7:10 a.m. EDT on August 29, Hurricane Katrina made landfall in southern Plaquemines Parish Louisiana, just south of Buras, as a Category 3 hurricane. Maximum winds were estimated near 125 mph to the east of the center.

Being that today is the 2 year anniversary of Katrina and he posted it in the Hurricane history forum, I would say it's a reminder of the anniversary. Very Happy Time sure does pass quickly.

Yes it does. Even Jeff Masters mentioned it on his blog today. Scroll down a bit and you can read it.

Question. Saw on the news just a few days ago that the corps was testing some new type of levy. Is the rebuilding of NO slower because they want to make sure the levie's are going to hold the waters back? Would make sense to me, why spend a lot of money rebuilding if it's going to happen again. Fortify it first, then do the major reconstruction. Just a thought.

That area probably will never fully recover. I used to work out of Reserve, LA and past through the NO area on my way home.

I go to Biloxi,Ms every 6-8 weeks. Nothing there except the casinos. All the houses between the Gulf and the back bay are gone. All the resteraunts, gas stations, Mc Donalds gone. Condos along the shore gone. Historical houses, museums gone. Shopping centers gone. Churches gone. People relocating north of I-10 about 5 miles north of the coast.

The people are great. Their spirits are unbelievable!
They will survive. But don't forget them. They are suffering even today.
