Ok as a few may know we are moving to the Tampa area by years end for 1 or 2 years befoe we decide on buying a place on the West Coast. My wife has been slightly opening up on the idea of maybe the FT MYERS CAPE CORAL AREA. Any great locations in the area ?? I mean for open sky watching with little trees or high buildings would also help in my police scanner radio for AIR TRAFFIC monitoring.

Hey CONVECTIVEMIKE,
Cape Coral is a great place to live. You have your choice of lots of great homes and condo's now with the buyer's market we are experiencing right now. You can buy a home for a reasonable price now, comparable to what you might have paid about 5 years ago, before all this market madness!
Decide what you want to spend and then check out realtor.com for some ideas of what might be out there now. Or better yet, come down and check it out. Some of the info on realtor.com is not real current. So just use it as a guide.
In the meantime you might like to check out the local scanner action streamed online at http://www.pinelakeshome.com/Scanner/radio1.htm
It will save you from having to put an antenna up, if you are happy with what is available there!

You may want to look into building a new home instead of buying an existing one. Done properly, you can get so much more for the same money. We really got lucky as we built our home here while living in Duluth, MN. I worked with a fantastic realtor who found me an oversized lot right on a lake near Pine Island Rd. I visited about 20 builders and fell in love with one particular model and we built our dream home. We spent only $57K on the lot and $250K on the home, but it was appaised at $550 when we were finished (the rapid appreciation of lakefront property was the main reason). Walking into a quarter million in equity just by building our own home was an enormous blessing. Done properly, one should possess a home worth considerably more than its cost to build and you have instant equity. Now is a great time to get a building project off the ground because the lot prices have come down and builders are hungry.
