We've been seeing such ideal conditions for significant rainfall this past week that even though we've had widespread coverage of moderate rainfall, I can't help but feel this has been a lost opportunity for so much more. The problem, of course, has been that debris clouds from earlier convective activity keep sweeping west early in the day and filter out our sunshine. With Gulf temperatures at their seasonal peak, we need to have land temperatures over 90 degrees to generate the contrast necessary for a seabreeze. Any seabreeze at all would be pinned to the coastal areas and trigger prodigious rainfall.
This morning's clear sky is a positive start, but satellite reveals a lot of high cloudiness moving toward us during our peak heating hours. Thus I'm thinking we may miss out on all seabreeze interactions altogether. We will still see some fast-moving storms, especially down in Collier county, and aerial coverage will be around 80 percent once again. But few areas will see more than an inch or two of rainfall because any actual collision-induced action should be off the coast around sunset.
Forcing dynamics in place for Wednesday, so rainfall and weaker thunderstorms are likely anytime after 10AM. Good chances of 1 to 2 inches of rain over many areas throughout the course of Wednesday and Thursday. Nothing dramatic yet, but we are slowly beginning to catch up.
