This is just a word to the very wise. Before you know it hurricane season will be upon us. NOW is the time to start gathering your canned goods, 20 emergency D Batteries for your flashlights and all the items necessary to sustain you for two weeks. After hurricane Charlie hit us here in Southwest Florida YOU couldn't get water or ice. My suggestion would be to get your water now and put it away so YOU have it on hand (five gallons per day per person and don't forget your animals. I would also suggest a wonderful asset which is keep warm or cold bags that will keep an item hot or cold for up to three hours. By having those wonderful bags on hand YOU won't have to open your freezer or refrigerator as much. YOU can store items in your ice chest. Start buying your canned goods now and put them right in your ice chest for storage. The time is here to also check your First Aid Kit. True Value hardware sells a great complete Forst Aid Kit that really helps. Get your scripts in line as well by contacting your doctor and make sure your medicines are on hand. Knowing that YOU have the emergency supplies (including a complete medical kit) makes all the difference in the quality of YOUR survival along with those YOU love and don't forget your animals. Emergency generators are another must. They are heavy and a pain at times but what a difference it makes when YOU have lights and a refrigerator. A gas or charcoal grill is another must have on your list along with the necessary items to fuel that grill like long matches, starter, instant charcoal, etc., Our electric was out for 10 solid days. That little Kettle grill was a life-saver. These are items that are absolutely necessary...and when a hurricane watch and warnings go out YOU don't have to stand in line for hours on end only to find out what YOU were looking for is no longer available. A weather band radio and a small protable dual operating (both batteries and electric) TV is another plus that all run on D size batteries. Buy plenty of batteries. Batteries are a small investment when it comes to the grief and headaches of no light at all. Be ready, be smart and be thorough and be safe. Just a word to the wise.

Yeah, they are neat... Have not had to try it yet (thankfully) but I have one here and two for my mom's home (also in Cape Coral)...
Kind of bummed we didn't have them in college.... I can picture my crazy roomies (hubby was one of them) making a batch of something strong and throwing a party... Ahhh when we were young...
Anyone else have any gadgets they wouldn't want to be without in case of emergency? _________________ Be Clever. Buy Handmade.
