Over four feet of sand is brought to the beach along the Seawall Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, in Galveston,Texas, to repair the damage caused by Hurricane Ike. According to Steve LaBlanc, the city manager of Galveston, the sand is being brought over to the Seawall from the East end of the island. In some places they are adding up to 200 feet of beach. Bolivar Peninsula, TX, December 6, 2008 -- Specially trained cadaver locating dog "Cooper" (upper left) works a pile of debris while his trainer and flanker look on. Months after Hurricane Ike left the area a disaster, final sweeps are being made to determine that no human remains are still in the piles; clearing the way for cleanup crews to move in and start removing the mess. Teams including cadaver locating dogs are sweeping the debris left from Hurricane Ike, enabling debris clean-up crews to move in with certainty that no human remains are there. Bolivar Peninsula, TX, October 15, 2008 -- Elevated houses along Highway 87 survived Hurricane Ike's twenty-foot storm surge with minimal damage. Galveston, Texas, September 22, 2008 -- Cargo ships and tankers wait off shore for the reopening of the ports in Galveston. Ok, heres a scary thought. Imagine riding the storm out in one of these homes and seeing the 24 foot waves crashing under your home. Holy smokes!
