I have a friend who lives in homestead, and he said the damage is widespread. He said he was just south of the eye the entire time and had severe conditions from 4:30 a.m. to past noon time. No break from going through the eye. His roof was damged badly and he took on water leaking into his house. He also had an RV that was severely damaged. Widespread damage and power outages. He also said many people did not board up because of the west coast landfall... Big mistake. Looks like we were on the weak side of a very impressive storm. If Katrina hadn't happened this year im sure this would be bigger news. This guy also works for nabisco and he said if you like nabisco products buy them now. The main distribution center is located in that area for all of southern florida and he said they do not have gas to deliver any product. Sounds like a bad situation. Once again impressive storm, but we got lucky compared to others. Buy oreos while you still can Smile

My mother lives in Boca Raton. She is currently renting a place while she is waiting for her condo to be finished (maybe this is a good thing that they have taken so long to get it finished!). She has no power but she has water and sewer. Can't go to the store because there isn't much gasoline and no place to put the food once you get it. She is also upset because she can't watch the World Series. <g> But at least she is OK. She might come over to Cape Coral because we weren't hit as hard as they were. She has friends in Melbourne (apparently live in the western part) and they didn't have much damage at all.
I feel fortunate that I only had a couple of trees down. Not a big deal at all. I'm glad everyone is OK.
