Those of us on the Cape won't see it. The Eclipse was cancelled by Code Enforcement for failure to obtain a permit.

I had a customer of mine who decided not to apply for a permit (with an application fee of $45) from her H.O.A. in order to have a small hibiscus planted in her front yard. She was subsequently fined $100 and $15 for each day she "violated" the rules. Unfortunately, she left town and racked up a $355 fine for the planting of a $9 hibiscus. Socialized landscaping does not work.

alorfi

I had a client who owned 10 acres on Pine Island Road in Cape Coral.

Around 1990, he was assessed $100,000 for the "potty water", dual water line by the city of Cape Coral.

"Potty water " is treated wastewater that is cleaned not quite to drinking standards and is used for non-portable ie: irrigation use only.

Anyways, THE LAND USE WAS TRAILER, motor home type of storage area.

There was one hibiscus bush in front of an office that was no more than a trailer itself. Everything else on the 10 acres was gravel or paved area.

We jokingly referred to that bush as the $100,000 bush!

The city eventually reduced his potty water / irrigation assessment to around $10,000. Still pretty expensive for one hibiscus plant!
