Would one of you experts tell me what a Cape Verde-type storm is?

Thanks! Wink

I'm nowhere as experienced as ccstorms or 46thterr but I believe all it means is a tropical storm generated from low pressure systems that come off of the west coast of Africa. Just off of the west coast of africa is the chain of islands called the cape verde islands. Hope that helps and Lou and Jeff can correct me if I'm a little bit off in my explanation.

I've seen them disscussed here and that's what I have learned too. Here are two links that give you more details:

http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics..._hurricane
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Verde-type_hurricane

according to the wikipedia article, Bertha, and now Ike, are the Cape Verde type storms for the season so far.

Thanks for the info folks. I kept hearing that phrase used in conjunction with Ike and wondered what made the Cape Verde storms different than others.

There was a lot of good info on the links (thanks Shar). Very Happy

Here's another one that has tons of information and links and that I have spent entirely too much time exploring...
